BBC Suffolk Big Summer De-Clutter
Sunday 08 August 2010
The Big Summer De-Clutter is the brainchild of BBC Suffolk presenter James Hazell and producer Sally Burch.
"This is a win-win situation all round," said James. "We're always being told about de-cluttering our lives.
"Now we can all do just that and make a substantial contribution to the EACH Treehouse Appeal at the same time."
The BBC Suffolk Big Summer De-Clutter will take place between 7am and 3pm, with a massive family event planned alongside the car boot sale.
It's a brilliant opportunity to get rid of all those unwanted items lurking about in the loft, the spare room, under the children's beds and in the garage.
If you haven't been able to do any fundraising for the Treehouse Appeal yet, this is a great chance to do so and to make a few bob for yourself at the same time.
All the money raised from the sale of the pitches will go directly to East Anglia's Children's Hospices.
The Treehouse Appeal is trying to raise the £3m needed for a new purpose-built EACH centre in Ipswich to replace the existing converted bungalow.
End to the hoarding
The idea came about when Sally revealed on-air how much junk she had accumulating in her garage.
"Many years have passed with more and more stuff building up in our garage which I couldn't bear to throw away, and suddenly I had a lightbulb moment," said Sally.
"Instead of having a pitch at a car boot sale on my own, why not involve the whole community and make some money for the Treehouse Appeal?"
Trinity Park car-boot sale organisers Shandale and EACH have all joined forces with BBC Suffolk.
Also, if you don't fancy carting all your unsold items away from the boot sale at the end of the day, you can leave them at Trinity Park.
Suitable items will be recycled and the money from that will also go to the appeal.
Get involved
A total of 500 pitches are available at Trinity Park at a cost of £10 each, with all proceeds going directly to the Treehouse Appeal.
Pitches can be booked by contacting 01473 276115 or e-mailing patsy.johnson@each.org.uk
